Wood working has been a long time hobby of mine so I started to think about some of the projects I have made over the years that others might enjoy making. The old saying kill two birds with one stone applies.  Help me pay my bills and at the same time provide enjoyment and useful projects and products to others.

One of the first projects that came to mind was the Toy Chest shown above that I built many years ago for my son.

The fun thing about woodworking is the process as much as the finished product.  It is just fun to work with your hands and produce something that you can be proud that you made it.  Of course it is nice if others find your work interesting and worthwhile and give you complements but you don't really need that.  All you really need is the pride you get with a job well done. It can be especially satisfying if you get to the point of designing your own projects, drawing up the plans and then completing the project. The first project listed can be especially rewarding because you will be making it for your cherished child or grand child.

If you don't want to build a toy chest but find this project desirable, I can build one for you.  Contact me for price and shipping for this project or others which you might have an interest.  The theme is geared toward a boy but other decals and paint scheme can be substituted for a girl.

The toy chest above was made many years ago for my son. He used it for many years to store some of his toys until he not longer had use for it and it went into storage for a few years. Now it has been resurrected and is now being used by one of my grand sons.

The base of the chest was made from plywood and the top rails, arms and seat back were made from solid pine. The lid is plywood with solid pine lip on the front. This was a very early project for me and the joinery was very simple. I used finish nails and carpenters white glue. It has survived for many many years with the only repair being to replace the original butt hinges with a piano hinge strengthen the lid.

I painted it a light blue and yellow. I added decals of toy soldiers, and a drum adorned with flags and my sons name that has since be removed when it was handed down.

I can provide pictures of these decals but not the decals.  Just let me know what you want an I will see what I can do.
